With the economic boat rocking on dangerous seas we all feel the feedback. More than the average American, the homeless of Fresno County, are feeling a real toll. With shelters being overbooked and supplies running on low, more and more people are forced to survive the bitter nights on frosty park benches. Just as economic awareness has risen, so has an understanding that we are all people and the need for compassion is greater now than ever. Kelly Borkert has heard the cries and responded with The Sleeping Bag Project. It’s an ongoing effort, since 1994, to supply the homeless with a decent bed. The beauty of the situation is that students are stepping up. There’s a general desire to help and Fresno State collegiates are giving up time to help those less fortunate than them. It takes something as little as a sleeping bag to make a tremendous difference. You may be lucky enough to live in student housing, Campus Place, or even at home where you know you can cuddle under the covers , but there are hundreds of people just outside your door who are suffering. Make a difference, donate a sleeping bag, and realize you did your part!
