New Age Admissions

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

UA is cutting edge. It’s trendy. It’s fully grasped 2010 by the horns and harolded in the new year. That is to say University of Arkansas is reaching out to students in a completely new and generation appropriate way. Say hello to Skype and Twitter when it comes to admissions!

The admissions office is dedicated to efficiency and magnetizing students to our wonderful campus. There is nothing like a school that truly reaches out to each student in a fashion that they are most familiar and comfortable with. Our generation is famous for its love affair with technology. From cell phones to Facebook, our obsession with the the right now and right here is seen by many of the older generation as a problem. But for us it’s how it’s supposed to be! And UA has tapped into that. Prospective students can talk personally to admissions using fabulous Skype or shoot off a friendly tweet with Twitter. Whatever it takes, the University is definately putting in all it’s efforts to catch a big net of fish. Of course no pon intended. It’s definately time to keep up with this fast pace race and join the mob of young students who don’t know what snail mail is and find email way more effective when transmitted through a touch screen phone. Go UA!

Hit the Gym

Friday, March 26th, 2010

I think it can be universally agreed upon that college students are in a constant state of stress. If it’s not one test it’s another, if school is being gentle then your personal life is taking a toll. We enter college with the idea that it’s going to be a piece of cake only to find out that this new life experience is ten times harder than we thought. So what’s an overworked, overtired and seriously confused collegiate to do?

Hit the gym! Climb onto the treadmill and feel the burn. Pick up some weights and watch your muscles bulge! Working out is a great way to relieve some serious tension, plus with summer coming up it’s a for sure way to get that fabulously hot body. Exercising does more than just make you break out a sweat and tone that winter flab. It releases “feel good” endorphins. These polypeptide compounds work just like opiates to kick up the feeling of well being and accomplishment. It’s the natural high you can get with a quick run or just from the fact that you know you accomplished your new work out routine. So, kick back, relax and show that punching bag how you really feel about weekends loaded with homework!

Financial Aid 101

Friday, March 26th, 2010

Spring is a time for major financial decisions among college students.  From renewing /signing a new apartment lease, to filling out the FAFSA and turning it in on time, I think it’s safe to say that this time of year can be extremely stressful.

If you feel that maybe you aren’t getting as much aid as you need, don’t worry because there are quite a few other options.  There are a number of websites made for the sole purpose of delivering useful information and resources about financial aid to college students.  Below are a few websites to check out that give a lot of useful information and best of all, they are FREE!

  • College Board: We hear about College Board on a regular basis in regards to financial aid and college in general. They are a non-profit organization that offers the most updated information about college costs as well as having a scholarship search available on their site.
  • GreenNote: GreenNote is fairly new company that allows students to connect with their social network (friends, family, etc.) to ask for small student loans.
  • Scholarship Experts: Scholarship Experts is an award-winning service that finds scholarships based specifically on the academics and talents of college students.
  • International Students: International students was created to benefit international and study abroad students in their search for Fellowships or Scholarships.
  • USA.gov: USA.gov is a government website that provides information on government benefits, including financial aid.
