Text and Die

Our generation is known for an affinity to technology; the rush of ultra fast computers and the world at our palms with touch screen cell phones. Every blip and beep can be translated into a matter of dire importance in our minds. But what is really that important that we text and drive?

Your girlfriend texts you with instructions on how to cook her famous lasagna and you feel the almost addictive urge to pick up your phone, skim the message and reply back. You do all this while your driving; eyes dance away from the road and one hand drifts off the wheel and fumbles with the keypad. And the next thing you know you’ve run into oncoming traffic, maimed a four year old girl and killed her mother. The father survived and all he has left is his grief and his anger towards you. And you? You survived with a few minor cuts, your phone is completely shattered, you’ve forgotten how to cook the lasagna and you have the death of a young mother nestled on your shoulders. Was the text that important? You couldn’t even remember what it was about? If you know not to drink and drive then you know not to text and drive!
