Reality TV: Real or Just a Bust?

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

We have all watched a reality TV show at some point in our lives.  Whether it was family oriented or crazy young adult oriented, no one can say they haven’t seen or  been slightly addicted to at least one reality TV show.

Although reality TV sometimes has a bad reputation, it really isn’t all that bad.  There are many people who have benefited from being a reality TV star such as the winners of American Idol.  These stars have had their dreams come true because they chose the path of reality TV.

And then there are those stars like “Speidi” from The Hills, and the whole cast of Jersey Shore whose 15 minutes of fame have lasted much longer than many anticipated.  Despite being infamous, we still continue to watch their shows in awe, in hopes that they don’t change their behavior, because if they did, there would be no show.

So are reality TV shows real?  This is a question that is asked all the time.  Sure some of it may be staged to make a good show, but the truth is, it doesn’t really matter.  Most of us are going to watch the show regardless.  At this day and age, there is nothing we haven’t seen on reality TV, and it has become a regular part of our lives.   For those of you who aren’t big fans of reality TV, the trend doesn’t look like it is slowing down one bit so don’t worry; even though you haven’t hopped on the reality TV bandwagon yet, you will soon!

Wild Place

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

Summer is right around the corner. Butterflies are whirling through the air, crickets serenade the night and sweltering heat burns through the air. Summer makes you want to hide in the shade and stretch out on a picnic blanket. You may feel the uncontrollable urge to have a constant supply of ice cubes or ice cream at hand, and the burning desire to shop for the perfect beach wear. Your brain may be tempted to switch off and turn into a basically useless organ. School is no longer necessary and so all you can think about is that blissful escape. But hold on to the premature brain numbing celebration while you think about your future.
Where will you be staying next semester? An apartment is the final key to being a “big kid”. It’s the certifiable element that seperates the boys from the men. The only problem with apartments and college students is the money factor. Rebel Place has figured out how to fix it. With affordable rates and individual leases, money is no real obstacle. Besides that fact, there is definately bang for your buck. Pools with poolside theaters ensure that there will be a wild ride all summer. And a shuttle to the campus helps you to save your car from eating up that pricey gas. So before you let your mind slip, sign a lease and enjoy summer in peace!

The Best Place

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Can you believe that summer is almost here? We will finally be able to boogie on the beach. We can browse the summer section of the store with thoughts of tanned legs and buff bodies filling our minds. No longer do we have to worry about how many layers we need because it’s so clear that one layer might really be too much. Summer is that time when cares fly free and minds wander. It’s the time for relaxation and relearning what it is to breath. Summer is most definately around the corner and it’s starting to take hold of Berkeley students. Beware of the summer meltdown a.k.a. your brain turning into certifiable mush!

Remember that you still have a life to live and plan for. Just because you finally get to give your brain a rest don’t completely flip the switch to the off position. Have you thought about where you’ll be living next semester? Sure the dorms are great but your very own space is awesome! Stadium Place and Allston Place should definately be your top pick. With it being within walking distance of the campus and downtime Berkeley it’s not only convenient but easy. And the price is right, just enough to assure you that it’s not roach invested but low enough that it won’t burn a hole in your pocket. Make the smart choice to today, make it your space and pick Stadium and Allston Place!

Little 500 Boosts Bloomington’s Economy

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Congratulations Hoosiers, during Little 500 weekend, you assisted Bloomington’s economy big time. The annual bike race modeled after the Indy 500 raises money that goes toward scholarship fund for IU students. Combine that with finals week and summer quickly approaching, and that synergistic effect naturally makes the weekend Bloomington’s biggest party time and economy booster of the year!

Denny’s general manager Richard Frank said his establishment’s sales increase by 30 percent during this eventful weekend in which students seek a meal after their late night partying. One year, a party relocated to his restaurant’s parking lot, and got so out of hand that his security detail couldn’t handle the massive amount of students and he had to call the Bloomington Police.

Local Circle K owner, Jason Gram said his sales triple every Little 500 weekend. In order to prepare for the surge of business, he overstocks and gives way more hours to his employees during this extremely busy time where students will constantly be at his convenience store from Thursday evening up until Sunday morning.

If you’re a student in Bloomington and haven’t experienced the madness of Little 500 weekend, you’re missing out! But as long as you’re not a senior, there’s always next year!
