UNCC event gives insight on Career Paths

It’s always been the norm to figure out yourself while in college. You pick a major, stick with it, and eventually find a job. Does that always work out? No. If you’re anything like me, your major may have ended up being something that you didn’t think it was. 

In today’s world, more people are switching up their careers all throughout their lives. According to UNC-Charlotte’s website, “It is now estimated that people will make 7-12 career changes, or shifts, in their lifetime.” 

That seems like a lot! This could stem from people not really understanding or learning their ultimate passion in life when choosing a career. When leaving your 901 Place apartment to go to classes on September 8th, definitely head to 150 Atkins between 1pm and 2pm to attend this UNCC workshop that primarily deals with how to successfully plan your career path lead by the University Career Center. 

This event will help you in deciding all of the main components needed in progressing in the right direction for a future career. Also noted on the website, those who attend should plan on utilizing advice pertaining to “identifying your interests and abilities, exploring occupations, choosing a college major, conducting a job search, growing in a job, and possibly changing careers.”

You never know, you can figure out more about yourself than you think! Life is ever changing!

‘To The Sea’ Comes to Charlotte

Students in Charlotte, NC are in for a nice summer treat because singer-song writer Jack Johnson is bringing his To The Sea Tour to the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater on Sunday, August 22, 2010.

Jack is known for his work in the soft rock and acoustic genres. In 2001, he achieved commercial success after the release of his debut album, Brushfire Fairytales. He has since released four more albums, a number of EPs and surfing movies/soundtracks. To date, he has sold 8 million albums worldwide. His highest-selling album is Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George, with 4 million albums shipped worldwide, due in large part to the success of the 2006 Curious George film.

Rascal Flatts to Perform in Charlotte

Since the band Rascal Flatts hit the airwaves in the early 2000s they have skyrocketed to fame.  They have experienced great success over the past decade with all of their albums reaching platinum level and have had eleven songs to top the Billboard Top 100 chart.  Lead singer Gary LeVox and his two band mates have managed to sell over 20 million albums and over 25 million digital downloads since 2000.  The country music trio has also won thirty-seven awards ranging from the AMA “Top New Vocal Group” award to the CMA “Vocal Group of the Year” award.   They are the decades most awarded and top selling country artists, and one of the most awarded groups of all time.

Rascal Flatts’ summer tour will hit Charlotte, North Carolina on June 26.  They will be playing at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre with American Idol finalist Kellie Pickler and new comer Chris Young.  The tour “Nothing Like This” is expected to break previous tour attendance records and be one of the best tours this summer.  The band was the first country music group to sell out Madison Square Garden three consecutive times on three different tours, and critics say that the upcoming tour shouldn’t let anyone down.

John Mayer.  Lately when we hear his name a few things come to mind: Relationships, tabloids, and break-ups.  But is that all to him?  The answer is a definite NO.

John Mayer is a contemporary singer/ songwriter who attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston before he decided to move to Atlanta to pursue a career in the music industry.  He is known for his musical talent that appeals to both men and women, as well as the young and the old.  In 2001 after producing his first studio album “Room for Squares,” his fame grew rapidly.  From his first album to his current album “Battle Studies”, John Mayer knows how to keep his fans intrigued and the spotlight on him at all times.
