Protect Your Valuables

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011

One would assume that residing in a student living community means that you are safe from theft. However, you can’t adopt the “It will never happen to me” attitude because you never know when some malevolent individuals will attempt to break into your apartment and steal your beloved big screen TV or gaming system. Putting the following tips into practice will certainly assist you in protecting your valuables.

1. Always lock your front door - The front door is the gate to your kingdom, if you leave it unlocked, you are just asking for bandits to infiltrate your dwelling. Lock it up, even if you’re just going out to check your mail or take out the trash.

2. Get renters insurance - In the rare event that your valuables do get stolen; renters insurance will reimburse you with the dollar value of your goods. Whenever you purchase a high value item, be sure to take pictures of it and keep the receipts in order to make your claim process as smoothly as possible. Place Properties offers an excellent renters insurance plan which covers up to $4,000 in property, and for $10 a month, it’s perfect for a student’s budget

3. Be Vigilant - If you see anything way out of the ordinary and/or suspicious activities going on in your community, report it to complex security or your local police department.

These three tips convey smart student living and will ultimately assist you in the long run. Take care, and enjoy your summer!

Sunset Stroll in Russellville

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

“Petit Jean Mountain is a special place - an unforgettable place - known for the legend of Petit Jean, the story of a French girl who disguised herself as a boy and secretly accompanied her sweetheart, an early explorer, to the New World and to this mountain.

Petit Jean State Park, Arkansas’s first state park, enhances this 300-year-old legend with windswept views, enchanting woodlands laced with streams and wildflowers, and a spectacular waterfall called Cedar Falls.

This park is a place where nature over time has formed sheer bluffs, Cedar Creek Canyon and the Seven Hollows, such distinctive features as Bear Cave, the Grotto and Natural Bridge, and whimsical formations we call Turtle Rocks and Carpet Rocks.

It’s a place where the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps endures in facilities mirroring the mountain’s rugged natural beauty.”

It is also the home of the perfect place to see the moon replace the sun. Sunset Stroll begins Richter Overlook on Red Bluff Drive. Meet Park Interpreter Rachel at the Richter Overlook on Red Bluff Drive for a short stroll to the CCC Overlook to watch the sunset from one of the most scenic locations in the park. Bring a flashlight for the walk back to your car.

Friday, April 9th, 2010

The University of Kansas students have been on the high road lately in terms of all of the awards they have recently received.  On top of their national recognition from the President’s Service Honor Roll, the most recent award recognition was to seven students in the KU College of Business.

R.E.S.P.E.C.T. is a new honor that was established in 2006 just for College of Business students.  It was created by a group of undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students of KU, who wanted to applaud students who stood out in unique ways.  R.E.S.P.E.C.T. is the abbreviation for responsibility, enthusiasm, self-esteem, professional integrity, equity, compassion, and teamwork.  All students who are nominated are then re-evaluated by the Honor Council of the COB.  Students who receive the R.E.S.P.E.C.T. award are thought to be the outstanding role models and the elite of the College of Business, and are obviously the best of the best.

Congratulations to the seven business students who were recipients of the R.E.S.P.E.C.T. award.  For the whole article and the recipient list please visit News.KU.com.
