We all came to know Kris Allen during the eighth season of the hit television show, American Idol.  Since winning the show in 2009, his popularity has been on the rise.  His first album “Kris Allen” was released in the fall of 2009 and had a U.S. debut at number eleven on the Billboard 200 chart.  The singles that Allen has released have seen great success, all of them landing in the top twenty on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The singer will be going on tour again this summer, headlining most of the shows.  This is really the first time the young star has been on tour since the end of the American Idol tour last year.  He will be playing with bands like Maroon 5 and VV Brown for some performances and for other performances he has invited some local bands to join him on stage.  On June 11, 2010, the Kris Allen tour will make a stop at the Crossroads Café in Huntsville, Alabama.  The show starts at 7:30 that evening and tickets are $22.00.  Tickets are available directly from his website and from Crossroads Café.

Since the band Rascal Flatts hit the airwaves in the early 2000s they have skyrocketed to fame.  They have experienced great success over the past decade with all of their albums reaching platinum level and have had eleven songs to top the Billboard Top 100 chart.  Lead singer Gary LeVox and his two band mates have managed to sell over 20 million albums and over 25 million digital downloads since 2000.  The country music trio has also won thirty-seven awards ranging from the AMA “Top New Vocal Group” award to the CMA “Vocal Group of the Year” award.   They are the decades most awarded and top selling country artists, and one of the most awarded groups of all time.

Rascal Flatts’ summer tour will hit Charlotte, North Carolina on June 26.  They will be playing at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre with American Idol finalist Kellie Pickler and new comer Chris Young.  The tour “Nothing Like This” is expected to break previous tour attendance records and be one of the best tours this summer.  The band was the first country music group to sell out Madison Square Garden three consecutive times on three different tours, and critics say that the upcoming tour shouldn’t let anyone down.

An All American Girl

Monday, April 5th, 2010

At 7:30 p.m. on April 30 country star Carrie Underwood will be performing at the Crown Center in Fayetteville, NC with guest performances by Craig Morgan and Sons of Sylvia.  Carrie was the winner of the fourth season of American Idol.  Since that fourth season of American Idol, Carrie Underwood has captured the hearts of many Americans.  It is not by her music, but by her undeniable talent, and by her girl-next-door personality.

She has accomplished so much with just three albums so far in her career, and it seems the accomplishments are still coming.  Since her first album in 2006 she has had many Grammy nominations, several Grammy awards, and twelve hit singles to reach number one on record charts.  Aside from her music, Carrie loves giving back to others.  Giving back is a huge part of her life and she spends a lot of time doing so.  She says, “Everybody has the power to do something, to be a contributing force, and I would rather people look back on my life and say, ‘She made the world a better place.’  We can all do things like that, and I believe that when opportunities arise for you to do good, you should do good.”

Miss Underwood will be performing at the end of this month, and for you UNC Pembroke students who want to attend, the concert is less than an hour away so don’t miss out!  For questions or ticket information go to CarrieUnderwoodOfficial.com
