UCO Hits Record Fall Enrollment for 3rd Consecutive Year

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

EDMOND, O.K. — The University of Central Oklahoma hit a big milestone in August with its highest enrollment ever of 17,239 students for the fall semester, illustrating the growing number of students choosing Central as a smart investment for success.

The increase marks the third consecutive year of record-setting enrollment in the fall, topping the university’s previous record of 17,101 students last fall.

Within the student body, other increases include a 1.7% jump in graduate students – from 1,850 in fall 2010 to 1,881 this fall.

Central also saw a 1.1% rise in first-time transfer students – from 1,668 in fall 2010 to 1,686 this fall.

The largest increase, though, came in international student enrollment – up 19.4% from 1,031 students in fall 2010 to 1,231 students this fall.

“We continue to experience a tremendous amount of growth in enrollment at Central,” said Myron Pope, Ph.D., vice president of enrollment management.

“Students recognize Central is an innovative, metropolitan learning community in the right location for accessibility. We are proud to continue to transform the lives of students who are the future of Oklahoma.”

Another record increase for Central is the total number of credit hours undergraduate and graduate students are taking – up 2% to 195,016 hours this fall from 191,133 hours in fall 2010.

Enrollment for two undergraduate classification levels is up from last fall – sophomores by 3.9% and seniors by 3.6%.
