The Search is Over!

Monday, April 26th, 2010

As the end of the semester comes to a close, there are many things that students have on their minds.  One very important thing is their living situation for the upcoming year.  On or off-campus?  Furnished or unfurnished?  Pet friendly or not?  There are many questions you should ask yourself when searching for a new place to live because you want your new home to fit your lifestyle as much as possible.  Luckily ECU has a new apartment complex that fits the student lifestyle perfectly.

First Street Place is East Carolina University’s premier off-campus student housing community.  First Street Place does whatever they can to stand apart from other apartments in Greenville, and they offer real value, a great location, and a comfortable place for students to reside.  Obviously First Street Place has all the basic amenities you expect from an apartment complex, but they also have much more!  They have fully furnished units with luxury kitchens, a state-of-the-art fitness center, a resort-style swimming pool, and are the only mid-rise apartments in Greenville!  Also, First Street Place offers individual leases so you never get stuck with a part of the bill that doesn’t belong to you.

So what are you waiting for?  Come and stop by First Street Place today to sign or renew your lease, and experience college living like never before!

31st Annual Barefoot on the Mall

Monday, April 12th, 2010

On Thursday April 22, from 2-8 p.m. East Carolina University will hold the 31st annual Barefoot on the Mall spring festival.  Barefoot represents the closing of the school year and the anticipation of the summer coming up.  It is a long awaited event for many ECU students.  The festival includes vendors, big prizes/contests, food, live music, and this year an outdoor showing of The Hangover. Past performers include John Mayer, Schwayze, Eric Hutchinson, and Jason Mraz.  This year’s performers include upcoming R&B star Jason Derulo, and rock band Carolina Liar, and the winner of ECU’s Battle of the Bands, Mixed Solution.

Jason Derulo is a hot new artist who emerged later last year.  His hits include In My Head, Whatcha Say, and Ridin’ Solo.  Before recording, Derulo was a songwriter for artists including Diddy, Danity Kane, and Sean Kingston.  The band Carolina Liar is best known for their hits “I’m Not Over” and “Show Me What I’m Looking For.”  Recently they appeared on American Idol and Fox Sports commercials.

This year’s Barefoot on the Mall should be the best yet!  From two hot performers to the vendors and the outdoor movie, the Student Activities Board is doing whatever they can to improve the festival significantly.  For questions about the event please visit ECU.edu

Destination: Spring Break

Monday, March 1st, 2010

The week before Spring Break, is full of excitement, anticipation and even chaos for many college students.  It is the week every professor wants to fit their midterm in because they think waiting till the week after spring break throws everything off.  It is a week students are realizing that they just need a break from juggling school and work while still trying to maintain a social life, and lastly it is the week students are trying to plan out everything they want to do during Spring Break.

As ECU Pirates we have all heard some crazy stories about what went down on spring break from friends, acquaintances, or even just fellow Pirates. If there is one thing that needs to be remembered while away, it is that you can have FUN and be SAFE at the same time!

Below are a few pointers to help you stay safe during Spring Break 2010:

1. Home Sweet Home

Make sure someone back at home knows what your plans are while you are away, and keep them updated as you go.

2. Know your Digits

Always know the Emergency Number of the country or area you are in and store it in your phone just in case.

3.  Risky Business

You do NOT need to bring all of your I.D’s, credit cards, passport, and etc. with you while partying.

4. Safety in Numbers

Always travel in groups, and NEVER go anywhere by yourself.

5. Know your Limits

Know how much alcohol you can handle, and remember that!  Keep your drink with you at all times, and if anything seems suspicious, just get a new one.

Whether you go on the East Carolina Spring Break Cruise or on a mission trip with one of the multiple campus ministry programs, remember you can be safe while still having the time of your life!
