Going to Florida? Beware of Sharks!

Sunday, March 27th, 2011

Panama City Beach is known for its sugar-white sand beaches and clear, emerald waters of the Gulf of Mexico and St. Andrews Bay. For quite some time Panama City Beach has been a popular vacation destination. The city is also a very popular spring break destination, sometimes being referred to as “The Spring Break Capital of the World,” due to about 100,000+ college and high school students who arrive during the months of March and April. It is also the home to a diverse group of marine life and scenery.

This past week a Basking shark, the second largest shark on the planet, was witnessed by tourists and a kayaker in the heart of Panama City. It is a cosmopolitan species, found in all the world’s temperate oceans. It is a slow moving and generally harmless filter feeder, unlike the world’s largest predator the Great White shark. The extremely rare encounter with this slow moving vegetarian shark feed on plankton are usually found in temperate and Arctic waters. Sightings off Florida are very unusual. Presumably, the kayaker in the video was aware that the massive creature swimming toward him was a harmless basking shark, but the situation must have been unsettling nonetheless.

Trio in Tampa

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Within the next two months, three of today’s most popular entertainers in the music industry will be performing in the Tampa area.  I’m sure the names Michael Buble, Alicia Keys, and Bon Jovi ring a bell. With music as a big part of all of our lives, one of the three singers/groups mentioned above will be sure suit your taste.

At Amway Arena in Orlando, Florida on March 10th, Michael Buble will kick start his long awaited tour, with a follow up performance at St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa  on March 13th. On his tour’s first day of ticket sales Michael Buble sold over 90,000 tickets, which is a huge indication of his quickly growing fame.

Next, with twelve Grammy awards in her pocket, Alicia Keys is a definite go and see.  Her performance will be Sunday March 28th at 7:30 P.M.  at the St. Pete Times Forum, which is the same venue as Michael Buble’s Concert.  There aren’t many tickets left, so get yours NOW before they’re gone.

Lastly is Bon Jovi.  As a group who lost the spotlight for a short amount of time, Bon Jovi is back with a vengeance.  With all pre-sale tickets sold out, I think it is safe to say that the Bon Jovi 2010 Tour will be anything but a huge success.  Welcome back boys!
