Razorbacks Prepare For Week Two

Wednesday, September 7th, 2011

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The 14th-ranked University of Arkansas football team practiced inside Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium on Tuesday afternoon in preparation for the second game on its schedule, New Mexico, which will be played on Saturday.

Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Garrick McGee spoke with the media after practice and noted how important the second game of the season is for the team.

“They understand that you make the biggest jump from game one to game two,” Coach McGee said. “It’s going to be different emotionally because now they have been out there, they know what it’s like to be out there.”

McGee continued to say that the team is in the right place and has the right mindset as they transition from one game week to the next.

“Some guys might think it’s simple or that they have done it before, but there are other guys that really turn the pressure on and they grind harder, they study harder,” Coach McGee said. “They really get out there on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and work on their technique and study themselves. Those are the guys that become the best at what they do and that’s where we are right now.”

Kickoff for Saturday’s game inside War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock is set for 6 p.m.. The game will be nationally televised on ESPNU.

Local Foods Dinner in Fayetteville!

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011

In American culture, sometimes organic food gets a bad rap. This is surprising because most American’s try all sorts of diet crazes and workout fads, but never go for the basic fixes, eating right.

“Organic foods are those that are produced using environmentally sound methods that do not involve modern synthetic inputs such as pesticides and chemical fertilizers, or chemical food additives. For the vast majority of human history, agriculture can be described as “organic”. Only during the 20th century was a large supply of new synthetic chemicals introduced to the food supply. The organic farming movement arose in the 1940s in response to the industrialization of agriculture known as the Green Revolution.

Organic food production is a heavily regulated industry, distinct from private gardening. Currently, the European Union, the United States, Canada, Japan and many other countries require producers to obtain special certification in order to market food as “organic” within their borders.”

The Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce, and its Agriculture and Urban Development Committee will host a gourmet “Slow Foods” dinner using all fresh, locally grown ingredients. The evening will include several courses, and will be prepared “tableside” by local Chefs Case Dighero and Jen Mattson. The event will be interactive, educational, and delicious, with a theme emphasizing edible responsibility. Proceeds of the benefit will go to the students of the Dale Bumpers’ College of Agricultural Studies.
