Say Farewell to SHSU’s President

Wednesday, April 14th, 2010

Attention all Bearkats of the past and present: Friends and alumni from the Huntsville area will join faculty, staff and students on Wednesday, April 21st in the center of campus from 3 to 5 PM to say farewell and thank you to retiring president James F. Gaertner, the 12th president of SHSU’s 130-year history. President Gaertner officially retires on August 31st but “This will be the last opportunity for graduating seniors and many others who may not be in the area in August to shake their hands and wish them well.  We’re inviting all faculty, staff and students to join us, and also friends and alumni in Huntsville and beyond,” said Maggie Collum, Director of University Events.

Over the last nine years, the Gaertners have made many friends in the area and Collum wants as many people as possible to have the opportunity to wish them well with a lively and festive celebration. The celebration will include music, entertainment, food, refreshments, and a brief program.  The purpose of this farewell celebration is to give the campus, the community, and the Gaertners a chance to say farewell and mutual best wishes.

Free parking and a shuttle service will be available from the lots east of Johnson Coliseum. This may be your last chance to see President Gaertner so be sure to check it out!
