Are you a student at the University of Texas at Arlington that wants to do something fun over the summer? If so, you should visit the Planetarium on campus.
The state of the art facility, which opened in March 2007, is a 60 foot domed theater which seats 165 people and utilizes a high-tech digital projection system which will greatly enhance the viewing experience. The technology rich system not only simulates stars and planets as seen from Earth, but also enables virtual trips throughout the galaxy. In addition to the amazing aforementioned features, the Planetarium also hosts weddings, birthday parties, and other events. You can even “purchase” a Planetarium chair for $1,000 and honor a professor or loved one with a plaque inscribed with up to two lines of 28 characters each.
The current schedule features shows on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Shows include One World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure, Ice Worlds, Nanocam: A Trip Into Biodiversity and $2 popular films. One World, One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure features the famous Sesame Street characters Big Bird, Elmo, and Elmo’s Muppet friend from China, Hu Hu Zhu, who visits from China. Together they locate The Big Dipper, The North Star, and The Moon in the night sky.
No matter which feature you choose to view, the UT - Arlington planetarium is definitely worth a summer visit!
