Benjy Davis Project to Perform in Starkville

Students in the Starkville area are in for a treat because on Thursday June 3rd, because regional folk band, The Benjy Davis Project will be performing at Rick’s CafĂ©. This popular regional band played across the United States as headliners and opening acts for several notable musical acts such as John Mayer, North Mississippi All Stars, and Better Than Ezra. They have also performed at the prestigious New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

The band formed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 2001 as a simple folk rock duo and as their popularity increased, they evolved into a six piece group and recorded four albums and two EPs. Each track on their latest album, “Lost Souls Like Us”, tells a unique and direct story and is packed with lyrical and musical moments that define the band. This band is definitely worth a pre-concert listening session.

The performance will be a benefit show for those affected by the hurricane in April and the Red Cross will be collecting canned goods and accepting monetary donations. So bring a can or two and a few bucks to donate to this worthy cause and enjoy the show! You’ll be performing a good deed and will be entertained in return.

All About the Cotton District Arts Festival

Are you a Mississippi State student that wants to do something different during Super Bulldog Weekend? You might want to check out the 15th annual Cotton District Arts Festival on April 17th. The event will features various regional artisans, and international and wellness displays along with a 5K run.

The International Village will be home to a wide variety of international arts and activities from around the world. A few of the activities include Iranian tea tasting, Kanji (Japanese symbolic lettering) character writing, and cultural presentations from China and The Philippines.

Highlighting the wellness portion of the event is the scenic Old Cotton Mill 5K run. Since this is an arts festival, Prizes in the form of masterful pottery pieces will be awarded to the top 3 male and female finishers in each age group. Is running not your cup of tea? Then you might be interested in visiting Phiddipede’s Health Village, which will host several health and wellness exhibits including exercise specialists, nutrition experts, and chemical free cleaning.
