Calling all UTPA students, ventriloquist/comedian Jeff Dunham is set to perform at American Bank Center on Thursday, February 23rd as part of his nationwide tour. Dunham, who is credited with reviving ventriloquism, has been dubbed “America’s favorite comedian” by Slate.com and according to the concert industry publication Pollstar, he is the top grossing standup act in America.
Dunham’s hilarious act includes various characters including Achmed the Dead Terrorist (whose introduction video on YouTube is the 9th most watched video of all time), and Walter, a disgruntled elderly man who has a negative and sarcastic view of today’s world. Time Magazine describes Dunham’s characters as “politically incorrect, gratuitously insulting, and ill-tempered.” In response to critics highlighting the offensive nature of his show, Dunham stated, “As a standup comic, it is my job to make the majority of people laugh, and I believe that comedy is the last true form of free speech.”
If you’re looking forward to a night of uncontrollable laughter, this is a show that you don’t want to miss. It will definitely be worth the two hour drive. Tickets can be purchased for $44 at Ticketmaster. Enjoy the show!
