The Harlem Globetrotters Are Coming To Longview!

If you’re a sports fan that goes to UT - Tyler, you should definitely check out the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters at Longview High School on Sunday, January 29th . The dynamic group entertains fans by mixing high flying basketball skills with ridiculous theatrics. They will be visiting Longview as part of their 2011-2012 world tour.

This New York-based team, has been amusing the masses since their inception in 1926. Notable members of the legendary squad include former NBA stars Wilt Chamberlain and Connie Hawkins. Originally they were a serious competitive team that only displayed their flashy moves after having a comfortable lead, but they eventually evolved into the hilarious and comedic athletes that they currently are. The group is so famous, that they even had their own Saturday morning cartoon and a live action variety show in the 1970s and in October 2009, the development on a new Harlem Globetrotters animated series was announced. Everyone should watch this amazing group of athletes/entertainers at least once in their lifetimes.

Switchfoot is Coming to Longview!

On Saturday, October 15th, alternative rock band, Switchfoot will be performing at The S.E. Belcher Jr Performance Center in Longview as part of their nationwide tour. The band, which is well known for their energetic live shows, will definitely provide an unforgettable night to all who attend.

Switchfoot is best known for their harmonious hits “Dare You to Move” and “Meant to Live” which both reached the Top 10 of the Billboard Modern Rock chart. Their 2003 debut album, The Beautiful Letdown, included the two aforementioned songs and sold 2.6 million copies worldwide. A defining attribute of the band is the “Switchfoot sound”, which is an eclectic combination of electronica and hardcore guitar riffs which are balanced out by lead singer Jon Foreman’s vocals.

Their latest album, Hello Hurricane was released in November 2009 and received mostly positive reviews from the critics. It’s first two singles are “Mess of Me” and “The Sound”, which peaked at #13 and #10 respectively on the Billboard Modern Rock chart.
