Daniel Tosh Headed to Austin!

University of Texas students are in for an unforgettable night of laughs because the talented stand up comedian, Daniel Tosh is coming to Austin to perform at Bass Concert Hall on Friday, October 1st. Tosh is a rising star in the comedy world and will begin his sixty city nationwide “Tosh Tour Twenty Ten” in late September.

He is best known as the host of the Comedy Central television series Tosh.0, in which he provides sarcastic commentary on online video clips, society, celebrities, and other parts on popular culture. Tosh.0 made the headlines on July 13, 2010 for surpassing both Jon Stewart’s “(The) Daily Show” and Stephen Colbert’s “(The) Colbert Report” in ratings to have the highest rated non-animated show on Comedy Central. Tosh’s show averages 2.2 million viewers while “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report” average 0.2 million and 0.8 million viewers respectively.

The school year has started at the University of Texas and students are saying “goodbye” to summertime and hello to homework, lectures, and assignments. 2. Keep track of everything that you do: Work, community service, and any sort of extracurricular activities are excellent resume’ builders. Record however many hours you’ve completed in these events.

3. Start working on your resume’ now: Waiting till the last minute to scramble and create a resume’ is just not a good idea. If you start now, it will be a less stressful experience in the long run. There are many resources located online and on campus to assist you in this endeavor.

“Star Wars: in Concert” Coming to Austin

Whether you’re a hardcore fan or casual admirer of George Lucas’ legendary space opera, it’s safe to say that Star Wars has left its mark in popular culture since the debut of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope debuted in theaters in 1977. Children dress up as Darth Vader for Halloween, Adults and teens dress up as Stormtroopers in the internationally known fan organization, the 501st Legion, and the saga has even been parodied in FOX’s megahit show Family Guy. On Sunday, June 6th, students in the Austin area will have a chance to experience the musical magic of the series in “Star Wars in Concert” at the Frank Erwin Center.

Concert goers will be treated to a full symphony orchestra composed by the legendary John Williams. The orchestra will play fan favorites such as the Star Wars theme, The Imperial March, and Duel of the Fates. Attendees can also check out various props used in the Star Wars films before and after the concert.
