2012 Tech Class Gift

Thursday, November 3rd, 2011

The 2012 Tech Loyalty Fund Class Gift Committee has begun preparations for the campaign that will produce the largest class gift in the history of the committee. The group has chosen a theme that will represent Tech memories of graduating seniors and graduate students: “Remembering Your Roots…Branching Out.”

The committee, comprised of eight undergraduates and three graduate students, is asking their peers to make a gift to Tech in the amount of $20.12, which can be given specifically to any area of the campus or Tech’s greatest need.

“The Tech Loyalty Fund means a great deal to this university. Our students benefit from the Tech Loyalty Fund on a daily basis, and those private dollars give our faculty members the tools they need to help our students succeed,” said Jayne Jones, vice president for development at Arkansas Tech.

Starting in the spring semester, the Class Gift Committee members will spend time in several academic buildings and other locations on campus to share information with other students about the Tech Loyalty Fund, Arkansas Tech’s annual giving program.

15th Annual Mt. Magazine International Butterfly Festival

Tuesday, June 7th, 2011

Mt. Magazine State Park, Arkansas newest state park of 2,200 acres, offers cooler summertime temperatures due to the elevation of 2,753 feet above sea level. These cooler temperatures are a nature lover’s paradise, as well as nature’s paradise. The altitude, geography and climate combine to create unique habitats for rare plants, animals and the Diana Fritillary butterfly. The nation’s “showcase butterfly,” the Diana Fritillary — seen only occasionally in other parts of the U.S. — consistently reproduces on the mountain. Mt. Magazine is a living butterfly “Eden.” Enthusiasts gather in late June from around the world for the annual Mt. Magazine International Butterfly Festival, first held in 1997. Since that time, the festival has continued to grow, and thousands of people from 45 states and half a dozen countries have attended the festival. It includes an opening ceremony in Downtown Paris, local entertainment, arts & craft vendors and shows, photo contest, a walk-thru Butterfly Conservatory, horticultural and butterfly seminars, nature walks with interpreters and more!

The festival officially begins Friday, June 24th at 8 am at the State Park with horticultural and butterfly seminars, nature walks with interpreters and more. All of these events are free and open to the public!

Visit Pope County Farmers Market ATU!

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

In American culture, sometimes organic food gets a bad rap. This is surprising because most American’s try all sorts of diet crazes and workout fads, but never go for the basic fixes, eating right.

“Organic foods are those that are produced using environmentally sound methods that do not involve modern synthetic inputs such as pesticides and chemical fertilizers, or chemical food additives. For the vast majority of human history, agriculture can be described as “organic”. Only during the 20th century was a large supply of new synthetic chemicals introduced to the food supply. The organic farming movement arose in the 1940s in response to the industrialization of agriculture known as the Green Revolution.

Organic food production is a heavily regulated industry, distinct from private gardening. Currently, the European Union, the United States, Canada, Japan and many other countries require producers to obtain special certification in order to market food as “organic” within their borders.”

You can enjoy these types of products in quality in Russellville! Pope County Farmers Market is celebrating 40 years quality produce grown by local Farmers.
