Sunset Stroll in Russellville

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

“Petit Jean Mountain is a special place - an unforgettable place - known for the legend of Petit Jean, the story of a French girl who disguised herself as a boy and secretly accompanied her sweetheart, an early explorer, to the New World and to this mountain.

Petit Jean State Park, Arkansas’s first state park, enhances this 300-year-old legend with windswept views, enchanting woodlands laced with streams and wildflowers, and a spectacular waterfall called Cedar Falls.

This park is a place where nature over time has formed sheer bluffs, Cedar Creek Canyon and the Seven Hollows, such distinctive features as Bear Cave, the Grotto and Natural Bridge, and whimsical formations we call Turtle Rocks and Carpet Rocks.

It’s a place where the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps endures in facilities mirroring the mountain’s rugged natural beauty.”

It is also the home of the perfect place to see the moon replace the sun. Sunset Stroll begins Richter Overlook on Red Bluff Drive. Meet Park Interpreter Rachel at the Richter Overlook on Red Bluff Drive for a short stroll to the CCC Overlook to watch the sunset from one of the most scenic locations in the park. Bring a flashlight for the walk back to your car.

For most of us, it is the beginning of the Spring semester. It is the time of year where it seems almost impossible to drag ourselves out of the holiday hangover, and get back to working and going to class along with the other responsibilities and stresses of normal day life. Not only do we have these symptoms, but also we know it is that intermediate period in the year where Spring will not be in sight for over two months. We start to run out of indoor activities and long for the spring rain and summer breeze. This is because we have to be constantly aware of the weather while we face the outdoor elements on our way to classes.

In spite of all of this, it is a new year, which usually means we all at least of something new to begin and out with the old. Living in your place, you have a lot of resources to help you jump-start your day. Instead of having to journey to the library, you can enjoy the clubhouse computer lab. If you want to get that extra workout in to get your mind more focused and to get in Spring Break shape, all you have to do is visit your 24-hour fitness center in your community! Hopefully our hospitality can help your sanity over these next few months.
